This is the remarkable story of Hank, a white Shepherd that traveled 11 miles to be with his previous foster family.
Rachel Kauffman fostered Hank for six days before the pooch was transferred to another family. Hank can’t stay with Rachel because she already has two dogs of her own, so the dog has to stay with another foster family. Hank’s stay with Rachel was brief, but the dog bonded with Rachel and her two dogs.
Hank felt comfortable around Rachel. He follows her everywhere, going to walks with her and Rachel’s other two dogs. He never left her side. But for a reason stated above, Hank was sent to another foster home.
Hank is a highly intelligent breed. When he was taken to his new foster home, he figured out how to unlock the door. When he did Hank ran out never to return. Immediately, Rachel and the shelter where he came from, was notified of his escape. In hopes of locating his whereabouts, Hank’s photos were posted on social media.
However, the search and rescue for Hank were no longer needed for after two days; he showed up in Rachel’s home. Hank traveled almost 11 miles from his current home at East Memphis’ Berclair to his previous foster mother’s home in Cooper-Young.

It only shows how dogs can become loyal and forever a loving companion if treated with love and care. He journeyed for two days to be with Rachel. He chose to be with her, and that’s it. No doubt, Hank is a sweet dog.
Therefore, the adage that says you don’t get to pick the dog, but instead the dog chooses you are true.
