Animal rescue stories can be hard to see and hear, but they also give incredible inspiration and uplift us with happy endings. Such is the case with two rescue dogs, Miley and Frankie.
Miley is an Alaskan malamute/Siberian husky mix, who was living in a garbage dump in Los Angeles. Hope for Paws dog rescuer Eldad Hagar tells her story, from rescue to recovery, in the tender-hearted video below:
Hagar said he doesn’t refer to himself as a dog catcher. He is a dog rescuer, who builds relationships with the dogs he finds and rescues. In the case of Miley, when they saw her, she was in poor condition. She was mangy, with huge sections of her fur missing. She was emaciated and looked exhausted. They found her barely alive on top of a pile of rubbish.
Hagar said he spent over an hour with the dog, trying to calm her and reassure her she was going to be okay. He gently petted her and put a leash around her, all why calmly talking with her. She was given something to eat. Eldad said he lept into his car. She was very ready to be rescued.
Hagar explained these dogs are physically and mentally exhausted when found. They are always on alert from attackers and abusers. They are continually looking for shelter and food. They are often suffering from terrible infections and wounds.
After Miley was examined by a vet and given a bath, she slept for three days. While she was sleeping, Hagar went out and found another stray. This time a chihuahua who was discovered in a sewer tunnel under a freeway. He had made a nest out of trash scraps and it looked like he’d been there for a long time.
Named Frankie, the chihuahua was brought in to Hope for Paws, and quickly became best friends with Miley. Frankie can be seen in the video licking Miley’s wounds. Hagar said this is what makes his often difficult job worth it.
Miley and Frankie were both adopted into loving homes.
