The staff of Animal Aid Unlimited, a rescue organization based in northern India, received a call for help one day regarding a puppy in desperate need of help. He had sustained a critical injury and needed immediate medical attention.
When the rescuers got there, they found the puppy lying near the corner of a vacant lot strewn with trash. One of his ears was bloody while his coat was filthy.
The pooch, whom they later named Banjo, kept flapping his ears in pain and discomfort. When one rescuer tried to come nearer, the puppy scrambled to find a hiding place, and he began yelping in fear.
Who could blame Banjo? His ear had been nearly torn off his head, so he was understandably scared and simply wanted to be left alone.
Of course, Animal Aid did not intend to give up on the pup. The rescuer covered him with a blanket, hoping the warmth would reassure Banjo somehow. Afterward, he gave the dog a few treats so he would realize these humans were not there to harm him.
Banjo was still screaming in distress when the rescuer carried him to the van, but then he calmed down a little. At the Animal Aid Hospital, the medical team put the pup under anesthesia and examined his injuries.
The ear was hanging by a small piece of flesh, and the canine’s auditory canal was exposed. After cleaning Banjo’s wound, the team decided that the best course of action would be to remove the torn ear altogether to help the dog recover faster.
In two weeks, the sewn-up ear healed nicely. Now that Banjo was no longer hurt and afraid, his personality shined.
The spotted white puppy turned out to be playful and affectionate. Banjo loved roughhousing with the other Animal Aid dogs, but he also enjoyed cuddling with his humans. After going through such excruciating pain, the canine surely deserves all the love he can get!
