Fig is a lovely Wiener dog that lives with his mom Estelle Morgan in Oxfordshire, England. He is an incredibly sweet boy who loves to make friends with anyone he meets. And most recently, he found his best friend.
Estelle is a zookeeper at the Cotswold Wildlife Park found in Burford. She’s currently taking care of a young porcupine that has been under her care since it was born. In fact, she brought him home and introduced him to Fig.
Named Diablo now, the baby porcupine weighed no more than 300 grams after birth. Sadly, his own mom rejected him. Hence, he had to be hand-reared.
Diablo’s parents, Hannah and Prickle, are among the animals being cared for at the wildlife. But he had to be raised by humans because his mom just had twins in February of this year. She probably thought she isn’t ready for another baby, so she rejected Diablo.
The first few days are crucial for babies, no matter if it’s a human or an animal. Because of his situation, Diablo had a very small chance of surviving. So to make sure that he gets the best chance, Estelle decided to take him home.
Estelle’s home is located within the vicinity of the park. She’s currently bottle-feeding Diablo every few hours. And she does it in the kitchen while Fig watches them.
Estelle knew Fig would play a big part in Diablo’s socialization skills. She thought it would be a good idea to introduce both animals to one another. So with strict supervision, she let Fig play with Diablo.
Diablo is incredibly feisty during the first few days. He always nipped Estelle’s hand. But since he and Fig have been spending time together, the little porcupine learned to be a bit mellow. He settled into a routine and comfortably followed his foster to the kitchen and around the house.
Now, Diablo is 6 weeks old. He’s already eating solid food, so Estelle no longer needs to feed him every hour. But one thing didn’t change. Diablo still plays and sleeps with Fig all the time. They are entirely different, but they complete each other.
